The Republic of Moldova is situated in south-eastern Europe. In the West it has borders with Romania, in the South, East and North with Ukraine.

The most suitable time to visit Moldova is from Mai until September. In May the air temperature gradually grows and the number of the sunny days augments. During summer, in June and July, the air temperature increases until +30°C, +38°C. The month of September, when the highest temperatures are +20°C, +23°C, is extremely beautiful and picturesque in Moldova.

The main rivers of Moldova are Nistru (657 km on the territory of the country) and Prut (655km respectively). The natural water basins are represented by the ponds situated in the Nistru and Prut river valleys.

The official language of the Republic is Moldovan which is the same as Romanian. Russian is also used as a communicating language between the living here ethnical groups. The most popular foreign languages are French and English.

The capital of Moldova is Chisinau city, situated on seven hills in the center of the country. The city has more than 700 000 inhabitants and its surface is approximately 200 km2. In present, this is the administrative, political, cultural and scientific center of Moldova. Chisinau was founded 563 years ago. The authority of local public administration is the Chisinau Town hall. The day of the city is celebrated on the 14th of October.

Other Moldovan big cities are Tiraspol with 184 000 inhabitants, Balti with 162 000 inhabitants and Tighina (Bender) with 160 000 inhabitants.
